Hi all,
Since I've grumbled about our two dogs failing to do anything to curb the
growing rabbit population, it is only fitting that I should praise my
18-year-old mutt who has finally tasted fresh meat.
Sunday morning as I was surveying the perennial borders before going to
church, the old dog leaped into a section and came out with a nice-sized
rabbit in her mouth. She layed down in the yard and proceeded to eat it.
There was nothing left when I returned from church.
This is unusual because "Bear" has never exhibited any interest in wild
game. And she's been fed regularly, so she wasn't starving. Perhaps this is
a signal of better times ahead: a rabbit-destroyer.
Of course, she smashed down a few flowers in capturing the bunny, but no
problem. The rabbits have been doing far more damage.
The other dog, meanwhile, continues to stay quietly on the deck. She wasn't
even interested in Bear's kill.
