Re: [SG] Amaryllis

Hi, Tim,
I got the bulb, which was about 12cm or more in diameter for a Christmas
gift. It came with the usual accoutrement which I recycled. I planted it
about 9" deep with lots of bone meal and heavily mulched it with maple
leaves. The first yaer it only produced leaves so I fed it some more meal
and covered it with grass clippings. To be fair, this past Indiana winter
was, as most Hoosier will attest, the winter that wasn't. We barely got
below freezing for any length of time which I am sure coddled my little
bulb.

Anyway, I have it on the west side of the house and it bloomed profusely.
Think I will not mess with it and mulch the heck out of it for
overwintering. Maybve you could try one this fall..Mine was planted at
the same time as the rest of my spring bulbs

Happy gardening, Kathy
