SHEILA -
My Cimicifugas are planted under trees on a relatively steep hillside.
Some of the soil has some clay and some of the soil is sandy loam. The
Cimicifugas are doing well in both locations. I do add peat moss in both
types of soil. I have found that they take two or three years to adjust to
transplanting and to begin vigorous growth, so do not be discouraged if
they do not seem to flourish initially. I have also made the mistake in
early spring of thinking that they were weeds and pulling them up, as they
look very much like "wild licorice" at that time of year.
Hope this helps - I am just going through my e-mail after a two-week
vacation.
