Re: [SG] SG Tricyrtis or ToadLilies

Hi Gene,

Yes, the only trouble with those darn tricyrtis, is the browning that some
of them get on the leaf edges late in the season. We get it here too, but
we usually have hot dry summers, contrary to popular belief. I find that
T. macranthopsis, and those similar to it with more succulent leaves, get
it the worst, but most are susceptible to it in a small degree. The T.
hirta forms seem to hold up well. The hybrid 'Togen', has thicker glossy
leaves, but seems to be quite resistant to this. T. macranthopsis grows
naturally on cliffs in the spray of waterfalls in Japan, which accounts for
it's pendulous habit, and also in this situation it is constantly cool and
moist. I find that it is best planted in a cool shady spot with a humousy
root run, that drains, but stays moist. In the nursery, I am growing them
under the bench where it is cooler and more humid.
What is your experience with them?

Yes, we do have T. ohsumiensis available.

Are you being hit by the heat wave we keep hearing about, as we bundle up
in sweaters and jackets just to go for our morning walk in the garden?
