Re: [SG] Sweet Potato Vine

Donna-

I haven't actually had to overwinter them yet - I received mine as cuttings
and they have just taken off. Come to think about it, my neighbor does have
hers in more sun than mine and hers does fine.....however, it is sheltered
from the sun during the hottest part of the day.

When she 1st gave me my cutting....she just clipped it off under a growing
knod...about a 5" cutting. I stripped the bottom leaves off and put into
water on my kitchen windowsill. I had good roots 10 days later. The only
thing you have to watch for when you root in water is to baby your rooted
cutting a bit when first placed into soil....I think the roots have to
acclimate themselves. I put my rooted cutting into a small 3" pot with 1/2
potting soil, 1/2 pearl lite.....then about 3 weeks later I placed it into my
wall hanger on the garage and the cutting did fine.

I do not believe these are hardy...you could probably keep your cuttings
indoors for th winter and transplant in the Spring.

Happy Gardening
