Yes, but all are exceedingly small and would not be in the size range of
"nats" (gnats). I suspect that the culprits are aphids or whiteflies. In
any case, even if they are thrips, repeated sprayings with a good
insecticidal soap (Safers, Murphy's Oil Soap, or Basic-H) will handle the
problem with a minimum of danger to the user. For insecticidal soaps that
are marketed as such, follow the container directions; for Murphy's, use a
tablespoon of soap per gallon of water. Be sure to cover both the upper
and lower surfaces of leaves, because soaps have to contact the insects to
kill them. Since eggs are probably also present, spray at three-day
intervals for ten days, or until no more insects are seen.
