Hello John,
Ephemeral seed is best sown before it has a chance to dry out. Usually the
dryer you let it get the longer it takes to germinate. In some cases it is
dead. Sow now and place in a shaded cold frame and keep it moist but not
wet. Let it weather over and they should germinate next spring. I surface
sow on sterile medium, cover with granite chicken grit and place in cold
frames with labels.
On Jeffersonia I would recommend a special potting mix. Try and use at
least 50 % leaf mold in the soil mix as I think there is some kind of
relationship between the germination and soil organisms. It may take two
years to germinate.
Incidentally, for you seed lovers, my seed listing has begun for this
season and it includes the ephemerals.
