Another reason for using Latin binomials.
John Mickel in his book lists:

P(olystichum) setigerum (syn. P+AD4- alaskense) Alaska holly fern (not
to be confused with P. setiferum, which is sometimes mistakenly
labeled Alaska fern. Hardiness zones:  6 to 8.

P. setiferum, common name +ACI-Soft shield fern+ACI- is hardy from aones 5
to 8.
