Re: tiarella seeds
I have grown lots of tiarellas from seed. Various species from
exchanges, and seed from Dan Heim's named hybrids that I have
collected in my garden. I read that dry storage can be fatal, but
found that was not so, as I got good germination from seed exchange
seed that I forgot to sow until the following year. I have not done
anything special - no regimen of 3 months in the fridge, then 3
months in the greenhouse etc. Also, the packets of seeds tend to lie
around the kitchen - no special method of storing them.
Putting all my data together, this seems to be the pattern:
Seed sown as soon as it was collected late in August germinated Mid
Sept to early Oct
Seed sown in the fall germinated in about a month
I had two packets of the same seed from an exchange.
One sown immediately I received it, Feb 14, germinated March 17
The other sown Sep 18, germinated Oct 10
The packet sown a whole year late was T. unifoliata.
Sown Dec 16, germinated Jan 5
