Hank - I am getting pretty good at scanning photos, and that seems to be the way to get good photos onto the web. I have not tried much to get good photos of plants to scan, and that would seem to be the critical factor: finding regular photo equipment which takes good closeups of plants.
If you need help learning to scan the photos, I found a good site at http://www.scantips.com/ (Havent tried it recently because I ended up buying the paper version, because I was using it so much.) It tells of the types of files (usually .jpg ones) which work on websites etc.
