As a nor'easter approaches, my thoughts turn to the near-by tulip tree.
It's
very tall (I live across the street from the tallest tree in New York
City,
which is also a tulip tree) and perhaps three feet in diameter. With each
winter storm my tulip tree loses more branches, so that now it is quite
bare
on the bottom. This is actually fine with me, since I'm gradually getting
more light, but I keep wondering--is this tree going to stay upright? Are
tulip trees long-lived? Cause if this one topples over it will destroy
either my house, my neighbor's house, or a small parking area full of
cars.
