Re: skunks(NOW Racoons,Help!)

It is not really recommended that you transport raccoons (or other animals).
Lot of problems for the animals and for the people in the area where they
get transplanted to. Plus, they can carry rabies and you're risking that by
messing with them. Better that they stay put. Here are some things that
I've done to discourage raccoons and it seems that I've had some success.

Raccoons don't like to be inconvenienced/annoyed. Hang/lay streamers of fly
paper in areas that they visit - paper won't hurt them (I don't think) and
you can hear them screaming and carrying on because they just can't get rid
of it.

A little bit of dilute human urine - I used this for the deer and since then
couldn't tell that raccoons had returned.

A friend of mine has a hose set up on a sensor (he got all the parts for
less than $20). Raccoons trip the sensor and get a blast from the hose -
they HATE that!

My mom does this one - hang little sacks of moth balls. Use some old
stockings for the sacks. Mom says she thinks it works for deer too. Moth
balls are poisonous so I'd use this one sparingly.

With all that said - I have had to resort to physically removing a few very
persistant males (MEAN little suckers - have to be careful). Hope these
help!

Buy or rent a big have a heart trap, bait it with cat food and haul off the
critter after you catch it. It is recommended that you carry it a far
distance. Keep in mind that these big guys can be dangerous so careful.
They can be very destructive to properly. My mother in law lost part of her
roof to raccoons trying to remove it to gain access to her house. They did
nest in her chimney and raised a family. They started on the new roof and
we
decided to take action, better for her and the raccoons.

In some states it is unlawful to trap them without destroying them, so
........what the state does not know won't hurt them.
