That's an idea! I did try to create a bog some years ago but ironically, it
seemed to dry out faster than the other areas of the garden. It may have
been my inexperience but I think I might try it again - might work there
especially since I do water the area regularly.

If you can dig a small bog area under the tree, the royal ferns or
cinnamon ferns would love it. Just line the bog with a heavy plastic
and fill with good compost and soil. Then the tree roots won't drain
all the water away from the ferns.
