The Monkshood like light shade with some direct morning or late afternoon
sun
and moister retentive soils. They do not like hot dry locations or wet
soils.

I thought I had the Monkshood in a choice position as you described - right
now they are beautiful. Foliage is lush and over the next 2+ months will
develop flower stalks. Every year I get excited and think "THIS year they
will be spectacular!!!" Then all of a sudden, some of the stalks turn brown
(usually the older, more mature ones) and the puny little ones "bloom". I'm
close to digging and pitching them but really DON'T want to.
