I have several in my yard, some "dwarf' (ha!)
and some not. Depending on the bed and the
look I'm going for, I have actually limbed mine
UP, making them more treeish, cutting back a
lot of the whispy growth on top, keeping it
about 5'. For the particularly well sited (they
love the heat here) or large varieties (like
'White Bouquet'), this gives me all the flowers,
within reach, but ground space as well. Of
course, I live in a zone 6b, and this year they
didn't die back at all. In 7 years of growing
them I've only lost one, perhaps because I
trimmed it back and we had some really harsh
weather after that. They will flower and grow
in partial shade, more slowly, but that's okay
too, sometimes! The one I have found the least
aggressive in growth is "Black Knight."
Beautiful, but never seems to get bigger than 6'.
The White Bouquet, I think would compete
with my two story house if I let it!
