Hi,
I have not had mice or voles bother my well mulched Helleborus in the
garden in all the years I have grown them. However, all those trails and
tunneling would not be good for them. If soil is tunneled out leaving open
pockets around the roots they are in trouble. I have had that problem
around some of my peonies in the past.
You do know that disturbing the soil is an open innovation to moles as
the dining is easier after you have dug and loosen the soil for them. Just
keep an eye out and press the soil back down as they dig is my only
solution to date.
