Hi, Esther. I have sweet peas planted in just a small patch about a yard
long either way. To stop the sprawl, I planted a privet bush in the middle
of the pea patch. I don't prune the privet so as to encourage a dense
habit, but just give it a trim in the springtime so the branches don't show
through the peas. The peas grow through and upon the privet, and cascade
over the top. I still have to pull out the volunteers to keep the patch in
one spot - removing seed pods in autumn is a must.
