When I try to root plants I can't get any to root except for the gardenia thats the only one I can root successfully! I have tried rooting azaleas or some other plant and I can't get it to root from a cutting. The only method I can sucessfully get another pant from the parent plant is to layer it. I go to the base of the parent plant and dig a hole 6 inches deep. I then place my branch into the hole and cover it then I place a brick or some other heavy object to hold the branch down. I then wait 1 year then I transplant the following year. I have succesfully layered azaleas and got some nice plants. Last year I layered some more azaleas and some boxwoods. this year I will have at least 30 azaleas and about 20 boxwoods. The ag ext office told me that layering plants would produce healther plants than rooted cuttings. I have tried to plant roses but I lose every one of them I guess our soil is not good for roses.
