Re: [SHADEGARDENS] Pests and predators in my area

Diana,
I am fortunate that I don't have a lot of PLANT eating pests. I know my toads
eat tons of slugs, I have seen them with them in their mouths. The problem
with toads is you either have them, or not (I think). In other words, you
can't transplant them from someone else's garden and hope they'll colonize in
your yard. The wrens also eat slugs and I place wren houses everywhere to
encourage them.

Caterpillers can cause me problems, but I think the same predators listed
above, take care of them. The problem with them is they stay in the tender
center of my hostas and eat away. It's hard for anything to get to them,

Snakes and cats have been mentioned to control voles.

Coyotes and dogs for deer.

I have more trouble with PEOPLE eating pests, like mosquitos, horse flies,
gnats, deer flies. (LOL)
