But isn't that what hostas are for, to absorb the impact of any wild flying
volley- and basketballs, and thus protect the more "important" plants??  ;-D

I always tell novice gardeners that variegated hostas are the result of
putting the plants too near the sidewalk where people walk their dogs... (tee
hee)

who knows of at least two different "Fern-dales" in the U.S., but has never
heard of a "Hosta-dale."  Why is that, I wonder?  ;-)
