I have several tender bulbs the elephant ears and water canna's. The Ag Ext person says those type of bulbs are not supposed to grow here in zone 8a. I have notice that a lot of plants will grow here but when I look in my book Treasury Of Gardening or I look up a plant on my Garden Encylopedia CD. Let's take the gardenia for example they say is can grow only in zone 9 but it lives here too I wonder if those people that writes that information ever check their sources I don't belive they do. Both the elephant ears and water canna's and the gardenia's come back every year the gardenia is evergreen here in zone 8a. In other words what I'm saying I'm confused on how the people that publish that information don't realize that some plants will live outside of their zones. I know both the elephant ears and water canna's are supposed to be tender bulbs. I rooted my gardenia's in a jar of water and the Ag Ext person did'nt belive that it was possible to root gardenia's in a jar of water until I showed him.
