Charles, don't need to throw away your plants. Do as I have done to keep
dogs and cats from stepping on my seedlings....it's very simple and
inexpensive. I buy the round tomato supports at a local feed store which
have three tiers of wire circles. They are graduated in size from a small
8" diameter up to 12" (I think), for a dollar. Then I snip the "legs" off
at the top of each circle which gives me three separate circles with legs
to stick into the ground around any precious plant that needs protecting.
It will work for kids, too, because they will trip over the circles if they
don't step very carefully.
They are not too unsightly either, and when the plant gets larger the
foliage will cover the circles. I hope you try this, because I've done
this for years and it really does protect the plants.
