Today while weeding in the garden
where the daylilies and irises are up an inch to four inches
and the hostas are still thinking about it,
the new neighbor's three dogs unleashed
(1 adult, 2 pups) came to visit
...the leash law has loop holes.
No damage appeared done as I got up quickly
and met them at the garden's edge
...after a sniff and a few kind words they went home
...I didn't yell or complain as I don't want the animals
or the owners thinking of me as the opposition
but I did look carefully for trampled greens
and should it happen again, I will summon
all the diplomatic courtesy / determination
I can muster to speak gently but firmly
about keeping unleashed dogs in ones own yard.
