Hello Claire,
I feel a little adventure in attitude goes a long way in gardening. If I
were to trust only the knowledge gained from my gardening references one of
my favorite family of flowers would not be in my garden... among lots of
others. Tricyrtis or Toad Lilies are still listed in many references as
zone 7 or 8 plants. I frequently get zone 5 weather here and they do just
fine. I tried them in the garden because of nursery catalogs and friends
who were more adventuresome than I growing them in their garden.
I have no ideal just how many plants I have killed through experimenting
and probably do not want to know at this point, but I also have some very
nice shade plants doing very well indeed that according to the literature
do not belong here.
This list is a wonderful place to pick up on the experience and knowledge
gained by others.
