Greetings

Hi,

I'm new to the list and am looking forward to the reading and
contributing to the discussions. I have only been really gardening
for five years, since I moved to the new house. We're on two acres
of wooded lot right in the middle of a big city and I love it. We have
very little full sun areas and most of those are taken up by the back
yard where the dogs hold sway. :) So, I'm learning to garden in
light to heavy shade.

I've got four semi shady to full shade areas that I garden in as well
as some areas that are at best partially sunny. My favorite garden
so far is the Shadow garden. It sits half way inside the woods and
has a pond and a bench big enough for napping in it. We found a
lampost at a garage sale and now it looks like a teeny tiny private
park :)

The whole area is heavy clay soil and I practice the no till method
of gardening so we bring in lots of compost and wood chips for
mulch every year which of course means we get lots of slugs too!
EEEk.. <g> I'm pretty much an organic gardener by which I mean I
use no toxins if I can help it and only rarely fertilize with anything
but bone and blood meal.

Looking forward to reading your words of wisdom on shade
gardening and hope that I can contribute more than questions here
and there. :)

Kasandra
