More on critters

If we are putting anything that does damage in the garden into the
"critter category," I have a new critter to share with everybody. I have
noticed over the years that my crocuses open and look beautiful for a few
days, then they get trashed by someone who rips the petals off and
leaves them scattered about. The perpetrator has been identified.
Yesterday evening my husband happened to be looking out and saw a female
cardinal in the act of ripping off a petal, eating part of it, and
dropping the rest. I always blamed the destruction on squirrels. Who would
have thought that these beautiful birds would be the culprits?
