Gerry,
I have P. 'Mrs. Moon' covering vast tracts...seeds around like crazy
and is a major groundcovering plant for me. I only remove the flower
stalks on the ones near paths when they turn yellow and get on my
nerves. Actually, end of June I often go around and cut all the
plants near walkways back to the crown as they are pretty ratty about
then. They put on fresh growth and look fine the rest of the season.
They seem to have a mild dormancy period after bloom and seed set
and start into a new growth session mid summer.
Now, I cannot testify what happens to a lot of the others as I
haven't been growing them all that long - like 'Excalibur' and the
newer forms. Dunno if they even seed around as haven't found
seedlings yet. Also have not whacked them back as they haven't
seemed to need it. Others need to testify on these guys.
