Japanese Painted Fern (Athyrium niponicum PICTUM) is very nice I think. One
of my catalogs says it gets 12-15" tall, but I have found that in my yard
they don't get that big. It is a soft gray, red and green flushed frond and
will take light to moderate shade and is hardy zone 3-8. I'm in zone 5 and
I have always had luck with them coming back. We get a day of nice sunshine
every once in a while but the spring has been rather gloomy! Carolyn

Hello everyone,
I am new to this list, all of you seem to live in America, I live in
England, I realize there are some differences, but I have a great
interest in gardening and plants.
I have a relatively shady garden, and I love hostas and ferns. I have a
particularly shady corner in my garden, I would like to plant ferns, but
I need small varieties as the space is not very big. I would be grateful
for any suggestions anyone might have.
Elaine.
