Hi Clyde,

I seem to have lost both carexes I planted at the end of last summer. C.
conica 'Himekansuge' and C. hachijoensis 'Evergold'. I bought them from a
local nursery so I assumed they are at least zone 5 plants, it not zone 4 in a
protected spot. I planted them in slight depressions on a small, sandy slope
under oaks, and mulched them with some leaves and wood chips...it's what I
have already on that slope. I tried to keep that area watered well going into
the winter. So my question is, do you think they didn't make it because they
still didn't get as much moisture as they need? I didn't think our mild
winter did them in....but maybe. (Or is there still hope that they are just
slow to come up in the spring???)

I had such great hopes for them :-( so I have to try them 2 more times,
right???
