Okay, now I have to ask....Clyde, are you related to the Victory
Garden Mr. Crockett? I wish that I was close enough to come visit
your garden, and Patsy Stygall's since I also have mostly shade, but
am halfway across the country in Boston area. But at least I get to
see the wonderful pictures that you share....again, thanks for that!

Hi Marilyn,

I don't think we are related but I'll check with a genealogist in Ohio who
contacted me last year. She was doing a work on the Crocketts. I found out
that I am related, sorta, to President William Henry Harrison. My great-great
grandfather was the great-great grandson of Harrison's sister who married a
Crockett. They kept the Harrison name "alive," so to speak. I am Clyde
Harrison II, named after my grandfather.
BUT the most important thing is that I AM!!!!!!!!!!!! related to David "Davy"
Crockett. I hope to name a hosta 'Davy Crockett' but it has to be something
REALLY wild!!

Hey! There are daily flights from Logan to Indianpolis Int'l. Come!!

Clyde
P.S. An aside, perhaps not true, there is the distinct possibility that I am
related to Tony Avent, the great plantsman, who owns Plant Delights Nursery
and who is a good friend of mine and of many on this list. Here is what another
genealogist has reported: Tony is actually Antoine d'Avent, whose ancestor was
a comte general in the court of Louis XIII of France, the Comte Antoine
d'Avent de Croquetagne. His cousin was Gustave Dessaure de Croquetagne from
whom I am directly descended. In palace intrigue, Antoine turned against his
cousin Gustave, since the latter became a protestant, and had him exiled to
Ireland. They changed their name to Crockett.
Antoine's descendants fled France during the Bloody Revolution and fled to
England. They changed their name, apparently to Avon. THEIR descendants made
their way to North Carolina where, due to an error in the manifest, became
known as the Avent family.
Now here is the irony. My direct ancestor, Colonel Hugh Crockett, fighting to
save the Union, was killed on the battlefield in a mano a mano duel with a
Captain of Lee's Army. Guess who killed Hugh? A Captain Avent of the North
Carolina Tarheels Regiment!!
