I have french lilacs on the north side of our house and although we are
in Zone 5, I think they might fill the bill. Basides being deciduous,

Your thought?

Hi all:
I grow a lilac--I recall it's a Persian lilac. Nice foliage and nice flowers.
For variegation I'd rec Fallopia japonica 'Variegata' which I guess is a sub-
shrub;or, the variegated kerria.
But for a foundation planting I'd still rec an evergreen--such as a variegated
dwarf hemlock.
