Sounds like you've got Torenia fournieri, wishbone flower, in the
Scrophulariaceae, the snapdragon family. Likes about the same conditions
as snapdragon: partial shade; moist, rich soil; and they appreciate a bit
of fertilizer now and then. Tender perennial grown as an annual. Some
strains about 12" tall.
