Re: [SG] Welcome

Sherryl: Thanks for the welcome. I'm a landscape architect in private
practice living in Bountiful Utah. My wife is a real gardener and takes a
great deal of joy in working with the plants. My interest in largely from
a design point of view to specify plants that "thrive" not merely
"survive". One of my biggest challenges is to constantly find new
dependable sources of plants for the gardens I design. A lot of good it
does for me to specify unknown or unavailable plants. It just leads to
ongoing frustration with the client, the contractor and even with myself
for trying to be too 'leading-edge'.
I always like to hear of someone's favorites. Not that I note it every
time but when I hear it mentioned more than once, I can usually depend on
it being a pretty good choice for use in someone else's garden. I have
several hosta and day lily at home and also like iris and columbine. After
28 years of professional paractice, I still haven't picked a favorite of
anything yet. Maybe some day I'll have to do that. Again, thanks for the
welcome and I'll look forward to the postings. David C. Racker, FASLA
