Re: [SG] Peony

Dear All,
I just happened to notice this post (I have been breezing by the peony posts)
and it brought to mind two peonies that I have from a friend of mine. One is
the fernleaf peony with a single red bloom. My friend simply referred to it
as the "great-grandmother" peony. Another on she gave me has a cut leaf, not
a fern leaf, and is more vigorous than the fern leaf with a red single bloom.
It makes a gorgeous bush even after blooming. She calls this one the
"grandmother peony' . Any idea what this one is? They both have the same red
bloom, but I couldn't say its is a very dark red, just red (colors are so
difficult to talk about in words).

I recall seeing a very dark red peony, one of the fernleaf species types,
years ago. It was worth its weight in platinum to the owner. Very old, not
very big, slow growing. I've seen them for sale (at Klehm's and various
places) recently for Big Bucks. If Grandmother's peony was a fernleaf
type, maybe this is what you recall. The leaves are very different. But if
it is a "normal" peony that you remember, then it was probably one of the
 four above.
