Bleeding Heart

Hello; about 7 years ago, I planted three bleeding hearts: two in mostly
shade and one in partial shade (it gets shaded only over noon and early
afternoon). The two in shade get a little bigger each year. The other got
enormous the second year, and maintained its large size until this year,
when it is even smaller than the first season I planted it. Could it need
dividing? I know the roots are brittle, and I hate to take the risk of
losing the plant unless it's worth the gamble.
