<This is a gem of a woodland. Panicles of white or pink flowers. Very
graceful. Up to 3 feet. Hardy=z5-9.
Neat for the shady border.>
Gillenia is indeed a wondrous plant. Stunning and graceful. Native to
eastern North America and a greatly underused plant. Would like to note
two additional factors:
It is much hardier than noted: we are at the cool end of Zone 4 and have
had it in our gardens for many a year. Some of my customers in Zone 3
Alberta & Saskatchewan are also growing it.
Further, while I always appreciated it in the shade for its understated
beauty, it was not until I moved it to a rather open & considerably
sunnier position that I became aware of the true elegance of this
species. For anyone growing this plant who has not yet become totally
convinced of its magnificence, give it a bit more sun and you will never
want to be without it!!!
