Clyde,
I'm no iris expert, myself...but, think you may be referring to I. foetidus
(hope I spelled that right). I grew some from seed once and put them in
dry shade where they were very unhappy and departed. Keep meaning to try
some more in a less dry and shady spot. Supposedly have good foliage all
season and very interesting orange seeds in striking pods.
