I have Lysimachia clethroides growing under two sets of completely
opposite conditions: dry sun on a bank and moist full shade. Both
sites are divisions of the same plant so the differences must be
due to growing conditions. The site in the sun has gone from a
four inch (10 cm) start to a plant about 12 inch (30 cm) plant in
three growing seasons; the site in the shade planted at the same
time and at the same size is now nearly 30" (75 cm) in diameter
and accelerating.
The two species that are the worst thugs in my garden are:
L. atropurpurea and L. ciliata 'Purpurea' (which are nearly
identical); they both spread rapidly by underground stolons
and aren't worth the trouble the cause me.
