inducing Variegation in Hostas

Can anyone give me information on inducing Variegation in Hostas or any
other genus by x-ray or other means? I'm trying to help a friend out...

Although I am no expert on xray treatment I have heard talk of several
individuals who breed Hostas using X-rays to induce mutations related to
variegation. You might try one of the Hosta lists or variegated plant
lists and see if anyone out there has had experience using it. I am curious to
know your results.
