Re: Compost, was soil
Hello Margaret,
There are only two of here, and although we recycle everything, there is never
enough compost. What little comes from the kitchen or small amounts of other
refuse goes into a 30 gallon can. We produce two of these a year. All the leaves
are picked up from about 3 acres and used in the garden each fall. One other large
canister on a stand that rotates catches all the other plant stuff for composting.
I recycles all the potting medium shaken from the plants before I ship and usual
end up with around 40-50 bags to play with (3 cubit feet each). Not nearly
enough. We use all we have and then order more.
We have used a dump truck load of a special mix each year. It is sifted and
screened soil and compost mixed. Just dump in place and plant. The mix is called
"gotta-grow". This year we will have to order a second truck load as we are about
out and still have a long way to go before winter hits.
We also order a dumptruck load of hardwood mulch each year for all the beds.
Discovered the company about 3 years ago... used the compost mix one year, and
we have been hooked since we saw the results after only one season.
Dumptruck load is $112, plus $45 for delivery to us since we are a bit far
away from the company. Load of mulch is $168.
