Hi Betty,
No intent to be argumentative here... just different experience. I have read a
lot of conflicting information about how the double bloodroot performs or is best
cared for. I can say that my experience has been to plant them and leave them
alone to form nice large patch over time. Mine has been out there for 10 to 12
years now and never been touched. Good looking and full.
I did dig into them for the first time this fall for a few divisions. I see
where the oldest of the roots has become woody and withered on the ends with no
new eyes, but other end is still growing. Newer growth coming from sides and from
beneath the older roots were fine and healthy.
Perhaps they would have looked even better had I divided every 3rd year or
so... so knows now?
