Hi Nancy,

Welcome to Shade Gardening! The bad part of having a water garden in
the shade is that you will have to make sacrifices...in blooms. Very
few water plants will bloom well in shade. Marsh Marigold might,
because it blooms REAL early in the spring with small yellow flowers.
You can grow water hyacinths, but probably won't get many blooms. Water
lettuce will do fine...it doesn't flower. Frog Bit and Salvinia will
also grow well in the shade. Parrot's Feather should also be fine as
will the umbrella palm. Water lilies and lotus need at least 6 hours of
sun to do well :(

On the other hand, you can surround your pond with lush ferns and maybe
a few hostas, but I don't know how well they will like your warm temps.
Good luck!

Josh
