Claire,
That is most interesting! It is good to know that H. Quercifolia will grow
in zone 4 as I have only seen it rated to zone 5. I agree that water is
quite important - these guys are all water hogs, but shade is also needed
in the warmer zones - at least in my experience - they scorch something
fierce in full sun.
I've heard other good things about Tardiva, but have not seen it yet in
person. May just have to go on my "wish list"...do you grow it??? If you
do, what's it like for you?
I knew good old 'Annabelle' was a hardy old girl....practically
indestructible. She's floppy, but I love her.
I should imagine that all the H. macrophylla would be pot plants for you -
there are years when I get no bloom because winter was exceptionally hard
and froze all the flower buds and I'm 3 zones warmer!! Thanks for the post
- I am always interested to learn how plants grow in other climates than my
own.
