Just a note to all those folks to whom I sent fresh seed of Aconitum
heterophyllum. The batch I sowed in the past few weeks and kept in a
cool situation (unheated basement conditions) has actually started
germinating, much to my surprise.
Although this may be a pain if you do not have the proper contitions
to keep the seedlings going through the winter, please do try!!!! This
is an unusual Monkshood, fairly rare in the trade and getting good
germination this easily is not something to scoff at when dealing with
an Aconitum...which are normally extremely challenging, even with
fresh seed and high rates are not to be expected.
If possible, pot them up and keep them under lights, or in a bright
spot over winter. They will be too small and vulnerable to overwinter
in a cold frame, even if the early signs of winter have not yet hit
your area.
I for one, am in heaven....
