Denise, back in Feb. of '98, I did an article on Carex as part of a series
on ornamental grasses. This was pre-scanner days, so there aren't any
photos in it, but I do have links to quite a number of photos of different
Carex on the web. I also did a table of online nurseries and the species /
cultivars of Carex they listed...the table is linked to in the
article...link is at the end of the article, I think. Now, some of the
nursery links might not work - have not been back to check them for a
while, but I have no doubt that those nurseries still list Carex of some
sort. If one of them is broken and you can't get to the nursery site, let
me know which nursery and I'll find the current URL. URLs are changed all
the time, and esp. when nurseries update to a new year....link rot is the
bane of the web:-)
URL to the article is: http://suite101.com/article.cfm/222/5853
Some of the listed nurseries also have photos up and may have added pix of
Carex since I did the search for the ones I linked to in my article, so if
they have photos, poke around on their sites...you never know what riches
you will discover.
In addition, that fount of lust-making plants, Terra Nova Nurseries
(wholesale only), has the following photos up:
Carex siderosticha 'Island Brocade'
Carex (Kaga Nishiki) dolichostachya 'Gold Fountains'
Carex muskingumensis 'Ice Fountains'

Carex is about my favorite genus of ornamental grasses (tho' technically
they are not "grass") - totally lovely and undemanding plants that should
be much more widely grown. There are some for colder zones, although most
are going to be hardy from zone 6 south. They also make good container
plants for zones where they are not hardy, if you have a cool (40F - 60F)
place with decent light to overwinter them...most are evergreen.
