Plantaginea means "resembling a plantain, usually like leaves of Plantago
major".  To me, this resemblence is not so clear on Carex plantaginea, but
more evident on Hosta plantaginea. The meaning of names is an interesting
study on its own, and sometimes takes you by complete surprise.
