I think you and Roberta are right, Diana. The people that sold it to me
specialize in native plants (I'm in East Tenn). I've looked it up in Hortus
III, and and there is a picture under the Family Cyperacae that looks just
like it (sans flower, of course).

Your description of it as a southeastern native reminded me of Fraser's
Sedge (Cymophyllus Fraseri, formerly Carex Fraseri) a great favorite of
mine that grows in the high altitudes of the Smokies. Anybody out there
grow it?
