Bobbi and others -
We have had coyotes in our area for several years..they are also much in
evidence at Eagle Creek Park. We have problems with too many deer at both
the park (in my opinion) and our house. I must cover yews with black deer
netting, which they manage to get through if they are hungry enough. The
presence of the coyotes does not appear to impact the deer population in
any significant way. We have neighborhood cats that come to hunt under our
bird feeders, in spite of a leash law for cats as well as dogs in our
county....but the cats have had no impact on the large number of chipmunks
that we have. We have had multiple raccoons that attack our bird feeders
and defecate on my garden paths....the deers engage in recreational path
defecation also.
We have Backyard Habitat certification....it is not difficult to obtain
and the process of applying for it makes one more aware of landscape
features. All of the required habitat features were present on our land
before I applied for certification....as were all of the desired and
undesired bird and animal species.
