Re: Groundcovers for shade?

In addition to the other suggestions, I would add Euonymus coloratus if you
have a large area to cover. In my zone 5 garden, it is more vigorous than
Pachysandra, Vinca minor, or English Ivy. It is also evergreen, will hold
soil on a hillside, and does a very good job of preventing weeds from
sprouting. I would not recommend it for a confined area, or around less
vigorous perennials - large mature hostas and shrubs do fine.

I have a few fairly shady areas that I need to plant. I'm thinking
some
groundcovers to help hold soil in place would be a good way to go.
We're in
zone 6a, SW Ohio. The area is fairly well shaded in -- sunlight gets
in
there indirectly but not much direct sun at all. Something that
flowers
would be nice as well -- give the bugs something to eat. :P

Suggestions?
