Re: [SG] Datura Mystery

Hi Gene and Cyan,

I have some plants of Jimsonweed growing in my garden. According to my
wildflower book these are some kind of Datura (stramonium?)--I don't have
the book handy here. Is that now also a Brugmannsia or has it remained
Datura? Someone sent me 5 or 6 plants this summer; previously I was not
familiar with it.

The plants are rather varied. Some have spiky, pointed leaves somewhat
like a poinsettia and produce white or lavender fl buds; some have more
rounded, rather feltlike leaves and produce interesting looking purple fl
buds. Problem is, I have yet to see an actual bloom! Just as the fl is
ready to open, some creature EATS it off the plant during the night. In
the morning, no trace of it remains. You can see where the stem was neatly
nipped.

Needless to say, I would very much like to see and smell the fls on these
plants! Plus, no seed is being produced. Does anyone have any idea what
might be eating them and what steps I could take to prevent it?
